What Colorado companies building software should know
The Colorado Privacy Act (effective July 1, 2023) applies to businesses that process personal data of 100,000 or more Colorado consumers a year, or 25,000 or more while earning revenue or discounts from selling data. Covered businesses must honor universal opt-out signals (since July 1, 2024), and the 60-day cure period ended January 1, 2025. Colorado also enacted SB 26-189 on automated decision-making, signed May 14, 2026 and effective January 1, 2027, replacing the earlier Colorado AI Act.
